BPD in the News!


About 5:11am on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for an Investigate Person at 339 West Broadway, South Boston.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the caller who reported that someone was attempting to gain entry into his apartment. He stated that heard what sounded like someone attempting to open his door. When he approached the door, he heard a male voice on the other side ask for help because someone had pulled a gun on him. The victim did not open the door, but called 911.

While searching for the suspect, an officer observed a black winter jacket in the front foyer of the building. Further inspection of the jacket revealed a small firearm in one of its pockets. The firearm, a Smith and Wesson .38 Special firearm was loaded with (5) rounds of ammunition. A license and passport were also found in the jacket, both were determined to be stolen.

Additional responding units located the suspect in the basement garage hiding behind a motor vehicle. A black backpack containing various burglarious tools was located near the suspect. Further investigation into the contents of the backpack revealed (2) credit/debits cards that were reported stolen from an earlier breaking and entering incident. A Smith and Wesson .38 Special firearm was also reported stolen during this incident. Officers located an additional container which contained identification cards, US Currency and personal checks belonging to a female.

The suspect, William Walsh, 35 years old of Middleboro, was placed under arrest and charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without FID Card, Receiving Stolen Property +$1200, Breaking and Entering in Nighttime for Felony, Breaking and Entering Vehicle/Boat in Nighttime for Felony.

Walsh to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
